Sleep at a different place every night.
Combining two popular activities: hiking and Bed & Breakfasts, Inn-to-Inn is an excursion that alternates invigorating outdoor recreation with relaxing, comfortable accommodations. Enjoy seeing the remarkable nature of north Simcoe County, then get pampered with a nice bath or shower and crawl into a cozy bed. Wake up to a hearty breakfast, then do it all over again the next day.
There are about 20 B&Bs along several trails: Ganaraska Hiking Trail, North Simcoe Rail Trail (part of TransCanada Trail), Uhthoff Trail and Lightfoot/ Millenium Trail, covering the area bounded by Orillia, Midhurst (near Barrie), Midland/ Penetanguishene and Coldwater. The spacing of the most of the B&Bs along the trail system is 15-20 km per day. The whole trail network can be done in about 2 weeks, or if you only have a few days, you can just do part of it. In the future, the Oro-Medonte Railtrail and Barrie trails will be added to complete a triple loop, with multi-use trails on the perimeter and hiking-only trails in the centre.

You can start at anywhere and just backpack your way through, or arrange to have your stuff shuttled to the next B&B while you travel lightly. In addition to providing breakfast, the hosts can pack you a lunch, and even make you supper. Or, if you are shuttling your car each day, most of the B&B's are within 10 minutes of local restaurants for your evening meal.
You need to call to have reservations set up for the sections of the trail you will be doing, so that you can be assured of a place to put up those tootsies every night. Your itinerary can be coordinated for you, and then you can confirm your reservation with each B&B.
Not only do you get to see the variety of different sections of the trails, but you can look forward each night to sampling different flavours of friendly accommodation.
We recommend an afternoon or day of sightseeing in Midland (Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, Sainte Marie Among the Hurons, and Martyr's Shrine) and Orillia (Orillia Boat Cruises, Leacock Museum, Orillia Opera House).
The B&Bs near the trails are listed below. Mileage for access point to the Ganaraska trail is approximate, and relative to the 2000 edition of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association Guidebook (blue cover).
The privately-operated Bed & Breakfasts have organized Inn-to-Inn Bed & Breakfast Network to enhance the enjoyment of hiking.
